After losing my job, I noticed something: my confidence went quiet too. I hesitated when I spoke. I said “um” a lot. I wondered if anyone would want to hire me again.
So I started a small daily habit: 10 to 15 minutes of speaking practice. Here’s exactly what I do, so you can try it too.
1. Write a 30-second introduction
Three short parts: who you are, what you’ve done, and what you want next. For example: “I’m Jyra. I’ve spent six years supporting a US vacation rental company remotely. Now I’m looking for a role where I can help a business run smoothly.”
2. Say it out loud three times
The first time will feel awkward. The second time, a little better. By the third time, your voice starts to steady.
3. Record yourself once
Just your voice is fine. Listen back kindly. Notice one thing you did well and one thing to try tomorrow, like slowing down or pausing instead of saying “um.”
4. Read one page out loud
Any book you love. Reading aloud trains your mouth, your breath and your rhythm. It’s also a quiet way to rest your mind.
Confidence doesn’t arrive all at once. It grows when you keep showing up for yourself, even in small ways.
